Hi, my name is Ana G., and I really like photography.
This weblog is an assignment for my Photography II class, so I’ll be posting all of my assignments, along with critiques of those assignments.
I’m from a ridiculously hot place called Arizona, and I’ve never lived anywhere else. [Obviously, not by choice, ha.] I just started my Junior year in high school, with little idea of what I’m going to be doing for college. My favorite types of art would be photography [oh, really?], literature, and paintings. I myself have no skill whatsoever in painting, but the other two I’d say I’m pretty fair at. I envy people who can paint, I think it’s pretty amazing to envision something and create it with paint.
Photography is one of my favorite interests. I enjoy doing it and learning about it, although I’m not so sure how I’ll follow through with it later career-wise. I’m still looking for the thing that I’m passionate about, so I think that when I find it [hopefully, I will,] it’ll shape my decision of where I want to go for college. An artist that really inspires me, and really inspired my interest in photography is my brother. He is a senior in college, and a true photographer. His artwork is always interesting and eye-catching. I want to say his photos are beautiful, but I don’t think that’s quite the right word. But I can say that his strong point is his originality.
When I’m creating art, I often think of something I read or heard that I found interesting. It could be a line from a poem, an idea in a book, a verse from a song, or a thought that I had. Whichever one of those that I am focusing on, it is the center of my photo. It’s the meaning that I hope for people to take from it. As for a ”preferred audience”, I would have to say I don’t have one. Some people might say that they want people who will understand the message in their art, but I don’t neccesarily agree with that. There really is no right or wrong interpretation of art, which I find really interesting. Everyone will have a slightly different perspective on it. Which is why I can’t say that I prefer a certain audience over another, I want my art to be interpreted in as many ways as possible.
I’m hoping that my photography class will qualify me for a lot of jobs that I have an interest in. There’s cinematography, fine art photography, graphic design… and a lot more I’m sure. My photography teacher [who is really fantastic by the way] has shown us a lot about photoshop and how to take good photographs. I know I’ll be able to apply everything he’s taught us one way or another, whether it’s in a job or doing things for myself.
